Kithure Kindiki's Father's Request to Ruto Over Running Mate Loss –

Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki’s father, Daniel Kindiki, has requested Deputy President William Ruto to consider his son for appointment should he win the August 9 polls.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, May 15, Daniel maintained that his son was a suitable candidate for the running mate slot based on his experience and leadership abilities.
He noted that the Senator should keenly weigh his options before taking the next step. He also dissuaded his son from vying for any elective seat in Tharaka Nithi but instead go for a national role.
“My request is for Kindiki to be given a prime slot such as Interior CS when they take office,”  Daniel Kindiki stated.
On the other hand, Ann Kindiki, Kithure’s mother, noted that their hopes were crushed after their son was not selected to deputise Ruto.
“My hopes have been dashed. We were hoping the Deputy President would appoint my son his running-mate because he is a man of integrity, who has delivered in the various jobs assigned to him,” Ann stated.
Their sentiments were echoed by Tharaka Nithi residents who were dismayed after their son missed out on the running mate slot despite being one of the front runners.
The locals reminded the Deputy President of his promise when he toured the county and urged Kindiki to drop his gubernatorial aspirations in order to serve on the national stage.
“I am asking you Tharaka Nithi residents, does Kindiki fit the bill to serve with me in matters of national politics? I am pleading with you since we need soldiers to be on the front line to form the next government, so will you give Kindiki to me so that we can together?,” Ruto posed a query during a tour of the county in February 2022.
What was initially touted as an easy process for Ruto to select a running mate turned into a 17-hour stand-off at the DP’s Karen residence.
Conspicuous by his absence at the meeting in which Rigathi Gachagua was named as Kenya Kwanza’s running mate, Kindiki later issued a statement noting that he would announce his way forward on Monday, May 16.
